Pleasance House Consulting - Site Map
Navigation within the PHC web site is simple. The site is not large, but it will grow as additional projects are completed, other people become involved or other products and services are made available. At the foot of every page, around the PHC logo, there are links (where appropriate) up to 'Top', left to 'Back', right to 'Next' and below the logo to 'Home'. Obviously the home page has no 'Back' or 'Home' defined, the last page has no 'Next' and very small pages that fit a single screen do not need a 'Top'. The idea of providing 'Next' and 'Back' links on every page is to make a logical, easy-to-follow route through the entire site for anyone who wants to peruse it all. 'Next' links are shown in the diagram below as black lines and arrows, and the 'Back' links are obviously the reverse of these. Note that there are more conventional direct, "structured" links for those who want to access specific pages quickly. These are shown in the diagram as red lines and arrows. There are also some less structured links within the site providing ad-hoc means of skipping between pages. These are not shown on the diagram. Note that because of these two "extra" link types, the 'Back' button on browsers that always returns to the previous page will not necessarily lead to the same page as the 'Back' link at the foot of each page.
Additionally, there may be links to other web sites. These are likely to be customers, suppliers or other contacts in the retail/retail systems industry. It is an intention not to duplicate others' material on this site, but links are provided to make it easier to get the information "straight from the horse’s mouth". Similarly, expect to find links into appropriate pages of this site from elsewhere on the world-wide-web as PHC becomes more established, forming working relationships with more customers, systems suppliers, other consultants etc.
This diagram will always be kept up to date with structural changes in the site. That is because it is used to define and document the changes. Ah! Just one of the many benefits of a structured, top-down approach to system design, development and maintenance!
